Life is a beautiful struggle
There's a phrase I heard years ago that keeps coming back to me: life is a beautiful struggle. I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now.
Life is hard. Not in the abstract, motivational-poster way, but hard in the specific way, where staying sane and healthy, emotionally and mentally, is its own daily work. The last couple of years have taught me that more than anything else has.
But in the middle of the pain - the heartache, the trauma, the disappointment - there's always something else too. A moment of quiet. A flash of real joy. A version of pride you didn't expect to feel that day. Sometimes that's all it takes. One moment like that can make the rest of it worth it. Can make tomorrow feel possible again. Can make the struggle retroactively make sense.
I think that's what ENGRAINED actually is. Not the good times or the bad times. Both of them together, molding you, staying with you even after you've forgotten the specific day they happened. The brand isn't a record of the highlight reel. It's a record of everything that made you, including the parts you'd rather not remember.
That's what I hope the designs do. Not decorate a feeling, but maybe to remind you of one. Remind you of what's already engrained in you, whether you asked for it or not.
